VOCI SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS 2017-2018
Alyssa Bogner: Alyssa is a music education major at Malone University, where she studies with Cynthia Wohlschlager. She knew she wanted to pursue music since she was 13. Alyssa has received several awards and honors. She hopes that through sharing her passions, others will be inspired to pursue their own.
Theodora Nestorova: Theodora will be a senior at Oberlin Conservatory, where she studies with Lorraine Manz. She has been the recipient of many awards and honors. This summer Theodora will be at Westminster College of Arts as part of The CoOPERAtive Young Artists Program.
Zachary Troyer: Zach will be attending Baldwin Wallace next year. He has performed in several musical theater productions in the Akron area and is currently very active in the choral department at Firestone High School.
Anna Marmaduke: Anna is a student of Susan Wallin and will begin her college career at Kent State University in Musical Theater in the fall. She has acted, danced and performed in multiple productions throughout high school. Anna is passionate about following her dream of a career in performance
Olivia Lawrence: Olivia is currently studying music therapy at the College of Wooster and is a member of the Wooster Chorus. She has been the recipient of many awards and scholarships and is active on campus in student leadership roles.
Ben Hayes: Ben is a vocal performance major at the University of Mount Union, where he studies with Amanda-Joyce Abbott. In 2015, he had the privilege to study with Eduardo Valdes, a Principle Artist at the Metropolitan Opera. After graduation, Ben plans to attend graduate school in vocal performance and conducting.
Lindsay Mays: Lindsay is a Junior at Washington High School in Massillon. She has been involved in many musical productions at School and participated also in the VOCI production “Music Man”. Furthermore, she is involved in the concert choir and women’s choir at Washington High School. She is also constantly volunteering for various VOCI functions.
Kyle Slagle: is a sophomore at Massillon Washington High School. He was involved in VOCI productions like “Music Man” and “Children of Eden”. He also participated in his school’s renditions of “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Marry Poppins”. He auditioned and performed for the OMEA All State Choir
Patricia Carmola: Patty has been a devoted member of VOCI (Canton Civic Opera) for 40 years. She performed the role of Dolly, in Hello Dolly in the spring of 2015 with VOCI at the Lions Lincoln Theater. Patty has performed leading roles regionally with Players Guild, Kent Stark, Akron Civic Center and North Canton Playhouse. Patty continues to study privately. Music is a vital part of her life and she wants to continue to share the joy of music with others. We are so happy she is part of the VOCI family!
