The Voices of Canton Celebrating 80th Anniversary Season with a New Look

The Voices of Canton is celebrating its 80th Anniversary Season with a rebrand and new programs fostering the “Joy of Singing”. Founded in 1939, as Canton Civic Opera, this choral organization has been singing for Stark County for eight decades. “It’s time our name and brand reflect the full scope of who we are, what we do, and where we are headed. So we are excited to announce that Voices of Canton has rebranded as Sing Stark!”, said Executive Director, Carol Olson. “We have been singing for Stark County for 80 years. Now our name, Sing Stark!, says just that. Today we are more than just a community of trained singers, we are an organization that believes everyone should be singing. New research shows that singing in a group makes us healthier, happier and more creative. We are offering innovative choral opportunities that provide a place for not only trained singers, but also for folks that just like to sing in the shower.” Today, the commitment to use choral art to educate, inspire and unite is forefront in the work of Sing Stark! Armed with research reporting that “singing together” offers a myriad of health and wellness benefits, the Sing Stark! staff and board are focused on creating innovative, engaging programming that makes singing together user friendly.

Sing Stark kicks off the 80th Anniversary Season with 30 Days of Singing in Stark County, beginning September 28th and leading up to the 80 Season Celebration Concert on October 27th, 3PM at Community Christian Church in North Canton. Our 30 Days of Singing is highlighted by open rehearsals, a campfire Sing-A-Long, Random Acts of Singing, a Hymn Sing at First Christian Church in Canton, a Beat Boxer Showcase at Muggswigz, Just Sing events and much more.

Sing Stark programs include: The VOCI Chorus: a 50 voice auditioned traditional choral ensemble, Vox Audio: a 16 voice, “Pentatonix” style, a cappella ensemble, under the direction of Brian Kieffer, Just Sing: 24 inclusive pop-up choir events incorporating great food, and adult beverages, while learning and performing a popular tune, Senior Sing: in partnership with Aultman Generations, a seniors’ choir, meeting at Aultman North and Aultman West, with 26 weeks of rehearsals, focusing on the health and wellness benefits of group singing, Family Series: a new series of four family singing events in Stark County, Middle School Summer Choir Intensive: a one-week choral day camp directed by Mary Meese, Camp A Cappella: a one-week a cappella day camp directed by Brian Kieffer.
