Tuesday was the first rehearsal in our partnership with the Canton Christian Home, in a new project called Seniors Sing. The project is a new community engagement program that fosters the creation of choirs in assisted living homes and senior centers. Residents joined together with VOCI choristers for a wonderful time of singing. Accompanist Eleanor, Kear and VOCI member, Joann Smith are excited to be participating with the new choir. The choir will be performing on Wednesday, November 30th at 2:30 PM.
Thrilling! Inspiring! Those are the words that come to mind as I think of the VOCI Scholarship Auditions that were held this past Sunday, May 3rd in Cable Recital Hall at the Cultural Center for the Arts in Canton.
Twenty-eight talented, young singers, representing eleven universities/music schools (Baldwin Wallace, Capital University, Cleveland Institute of Music, College of Wooster, Eastman School of Music, Malone University, Ohio University, University of Akron, University of Dayton, University of Toledo and University of Valley Forge) competed for six scholarships totaling $4,500.
VOCI was priveledged to have ML Schultze, award winning reporter for WKSU, write a feature story on our performances of the Civil War Cantatas and upcoming trip to Washington DC. http://www.wksu.org/news/story/42125

Nate Lockwood is among our newest members! Nate is a native of Massillon, Ohio and graduated from Washington High School in 2009. While at Massillon Nate was very involved in the music department including Washingtonians, the Massillon Tiger Swing Band and several roles in WHS musicals. His Freshman year was Loren Veigel's final year at Massillon, where Nate was in his Freshman Choir. Following High School he went to Capital University to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Music Technology. While at Capital he sang in the Chapel Choir under the direction of Dr. Lynda Hasseler and was a 4-year member of the Men's chorus "The Chordsmen" under the direction of renowned choral composer Craig Courtney.
VOCI has been invited to perform the beloved Civil War Cantatas by Richard Bales at the National Gallery of Art in Washinton DC on April 12, 2015. The chorus will join the National Gallery of Art Orchestra for a presentation of both cantatas: "The Confederacy" and "The Union".
